PROFILE

Born in Hyogo, Japan in1993.
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Japanese Painting in 2017.
Obtained a doctoral degree (Fine Arts) from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Post-doctoral Program, Specialization in Fine Arts, Japanese Painting in 2022.

 

Kakutani’s main subject matter is landscapes photographed with his smartphone.
Many of the landscapes in his artworks are fragments of everyday life.
It is based on the idea that reality comes from the accumulation of people’s experiences.

Kakutani’s approach reflects the idea that reality and realization come from the accumulation of people’s experiences.
The landscapes in his artworks are universal and often fragmented fragments of everyday life.
In particular, in the “Frosted Window” and “Curtain” series, some of the details in acrylic paint are rendered as if filtered out and obscured.
It has a structure that is complemented by the viewer’s memory.
These his artworks go beyond mere visual information and are completed by the projection of the viewer’s inner ideas and experiences.
Through visual ambiguity, it is a place where we can reconsider the reality we usually perceive and illuminate our individual memories and experiences.
